As Tottenham Hotspur continue to struggle in 2019/20, one of their reported transfer targets from this summer has made an excellent start.
Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek was linked (Daily Mail) with a £45 million switch to Spurs, but stayed put with the Dutch champions following a stunning 2018/19 campaign.
The 22-year-old made 57 appearances in all competitions and scored 17 goals and laid on 13 assists for teammates.

This term so far, he has continued to shine for Ajax – in 11 appearances, he already has nine goal involvements (three goals, six assists).
van de Beek was on target in last night’s Champions League group stage clash with Valencia, which Ajax won 3-0.
The attacking midfielder’s stock is continuing to rise, but he has confirmed (VI) he won’t be leaving the club mid-season.
TBR’s view
With Christian Eriksen having had a poor start to the new season and his contract running down, Spurs may have missed a trick over van de Beek, who is very much looking like the real deal.

Spurs not moving for him in the summer could prove to be a real oversight, especially if they do decide to return for van de Beek next summer, when his value could be significantly higher.
The club did bring in Giovani Lo Celso who could well prove to be the answer in the end, but right now van de Beek’s form is certainly not a good look for Spurs.
