Recent history of Watford away serves as serious warning to Liverpool

Liverpool travel to Watford on Saturday in the Premier League and know three points is essential to keeping the pressure on leaders Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are unbeaten after their opening 12 league games, which means they are second in the table and just two points off the top.

They have a 100 per cent win record so far this season against teams outside of the ‘top six’ and will be favourites to claim victory against Watford.

But Klopp has just one win in his three league trips to Vicarage Road as Liverpool boss and will be well aware of the huge task ahead of them at the weekend.

Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw away to Watford last season, while they were also hammered 3-0 by the Hornets in the 2015/16 campaign.

Seventh-placed Watford certainly represent a potential banana skin for the Merseyside club and they will need to field their best XI to earn the win.

Klopp could be tempted to make changes ahead of a pivotal Champions League clash away to Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday, but can’t really afford to be dropping many points in the league if they are to win the title.

Watford have already beaten Tottenham at home this season and can’t be taken lightly, especially when they’ve got dangerous attacking threats such as Andre Gary and Roberto Pereyra.
