Reason for Dominic Solanke transfer collapse suddenly makes Rangers the perfect destination

Rangers may have another chance to sign Dominic Solanke. The Liverpool striker has long been linked with a potential loan move to Ibrox. However, he appeared to be on his way to Crystal Palace this week. A deal looked done until it emerged last night that it would not be happening.

As reported by The Sun, the deal has broken down over concerns regarding the England under-21 star’s fitness.

The report suggests he is not currently fit to play after recent ‘muscle problems’. Palace wanted him in the team immediately. With that not possible, a deal was scratched.

So what about Rangers? Could they now swoop in again for the player?

Undoubtedly. However, should they?

Rangers are in a better position to sign Solanke as they are currently on a winter break. They do not play again until they face Cowdenbeath on the 18th. The next league fixture for Rangers is the 23rd January clash with Kilmarnock.

Rangers could, therefore, have over two weeks to put Solanke through his paces and get him up to scratch in time for later this month.

On top of that, Rangers’ need is not as desperate as Palace’s. Alfredo Morelos currently leads the line and they have Kyle Lafferty in reserve. If Rangers signed Solanke, they could wait until February to bring him into the XI.

The collapse of this Palace deal could be a blessing for Rangers, with Solanke now surely desperate to get another loan move agreed.

Steven Gerrard will no doubt continue to ponder a raid on his former club.
