‘Really worries me’: Celtic star accused of letting Lennon down ahead of new boss arrival

Leigh Griffiths remains a goal threat, but there are major doubts about his future at the club.

In a season of so much historical import to Celtic, Griffiths failed to step up to the plate and has so far returned just six goals in 20 appearances.

He was handed a rare start in the 3-0 win over Falkirk, but passed up an early chance and was largely ineffective for the remainder of the game.

The striker was left out of the squad for Celtic’s pre-season trip to France, with then-manager Neil Lennon unimpressed with his fitness and social media posts.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Lennon said Griffiths “let himself down”, and former Celtic defender Steven Pressley has now expressed a similar sentiment.

There is doubt among the support as to whether he will remain at the club next season, with some suggesting that the 30-year-old may follow captain Scott Brown to Aberdeen.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Pressley expressed his concerns about Griffiths with Eddie Howe expected to be announced imminently.

He said: “The first thing is – I really like Leigh Griffiths as a player.

“He’s got terrific movement and he’s a player that can score goals and is most effective getting that last touch on a move. He’s a very unique player in that respect.

“But my one issue with him is that he’s had a number of opportunities. I think he let Neil Lennon down immensely this season. He came back from the break in really poor physical condition and that type of professionalism really worries me moving forward.

“I think for Celtic moving forward there needs to be a real cultural change where professionalism is at the very top of the list.

“That’s why I have my doubts whether Leigh Griffiths will be part of Eddie Howe’s squad moving forward.”
