'Really stood out'; Theo Walcott full of praise for Kyle Walker-Peters
Theo Walcott says Kyle Walker-Peters is the Southampton player to have impressed him the most. The England winger believes they have an understanding.
Theo Walcott feels Kyle Walker-Peters has been the most impressive player so far since his return to Southampton. Walcott rejoined his first club at the end of the transfer window, where he’ll spend the season on loan from Everton.
It sounds as though he’s found an early connection, too, with right-back Walker-Peters.
“I am rooming with Kyle at the moment and he is a very honest and good kid,” he told HampshireLive. “He wants to work hard and with him on the right and me on the right we are already getting a good relationship going.”
And despite only training twice, he felt comfortable picking Walker-Peters as an early standout.
“I’ve only trained twice because of the mini lockdown we have had,” said Walcott. “I have had my eye on a couple of the others players too but it’s Kyle who has really stood out to me.”
It’s great news for Southampton that Walcott has found a connection with someone already. Even better, it’s a player on his side of the pitch.
Every side benefits from their winger and full-back having chemistry on the pitch and it looks as though Southampton have immediately got that. They need to prove that it translates onto the pitch, of course, but this is very encouraging.
We’ll likely get our first look at it on Saturday as the Saints take on Chelsea. All eyes will be on Walcott for his return, of course, but it’s his partnership down that right flank with Walker-Peters that should possibly attract the most attention.
It has the potential to be a dangerous one for Southampton this year.
