'Really looking forward': Liverpool coaches excited about 18-year-old Klopp has deemed 'exceptional'
Liverpool coach Vitor Matos has expressed his excitement at working with Reds summer signing Calvin Ramsay.
In June, the Anfield outfit signed the 18-year-old right-back from Scottish outfit Aberdeen for £6.5m.
Liverpool have reportedly paid an initial £4m up front, with a further £2.5m in add-ons.
However, Ramsay is yet to train with his new teammates.
The teenager is undergoing treatment for an injury discovered during his initial fitness tests.
Ramsay flew out to Austria last week but is not working alongside the rest of the squad.
Earlier this week, Klopp said Liverpool needed to “be careful” with his recovery as such a young player.
And Matos is looking forward to the day Ramsay is fit and available to train.
“All of the new signings are top quality,” the Liverpool website quotes him as saying.
“So different positions, different profiles as well.
“Calvin didn’t start training but we are really looking forward for him.”
“We really expect a lot from him in the long term”
Ramsay enjoyed a superb breakthrough season at Aberdeen last term.
The 18-year-old only made his senior debut in March 2021, in a Scottish Cup trip to Dumbarton.
Since then, however, Ramsay has kicked on massively, and became Dons’ first-choice right-back.
He featured 33 times for Aberdeen last term, both domestically and in the Europa Conference League.
The Scotland youth international registered an impressive nine assists for his club, as well as one goal.
“Everything we saw about him, we heard about him, I heard from him: a fantastic boy,” Klopp recently said.
“And what a player he is, what he did for Aberdeen last year, absolutely exceptional.
“In his age group and you know the things we need from a full-back, he is as close as it gets to the things we want and is still a kid.
“So we really expect a lot from him in the long term.”
