Manchester United were lucky not to be out of sight against Liverpool today and Gary Neville was far from impressed with two players.
United were hammered in the opening 45 minutes but somehow found themselves just 1-0 down before finding goals in the second half to turn the game on its head.
For United and Erik ten Hag, the first half was yet another worrying performance in what has been a season full of them.
Liverpool cut United open time and time again, especially through the middle of the park.
Indeed, Liverpool had a whopping 14 shots in the opening half while United didn’t manage a single effort.
And speaking on commentary during the game for Sky Sports, Gary Neville slammed two Manchester United players for their efforts.
Gary Neville unhappy with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes
Watching both Fernandes and Casemiro in the middle for United was always going to be hard viewing given how good Liverpool are in that department.
And in the first 45 minutes, it was abundantly clear that the United midfielders were not up to the task.

After Liverpool sliced through them with ease once more as half-time approached, Neville, who was on Sky Sports co-comms, slammed both Fernandes and Casemiro for how they were going about their business in the middle of the park.
“Some of the things that Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro have done in the first half, it really is incredible for their experience,” Neville ranted.
While this was just one throwaway comment from Neville, it wasn’t the only time in that opening 45 minutes where he expressed his displeasure at the United midfield. Indeed, it’s become a pretty common theme in Neville’s commentary on United this season.
In the end, both players ended up stepping things up a touch to contribute.
Fernandes, of course, rattled in the fine equaliser while Casemiro used his experience in the second 45 to help keep Liverpool at bay.
For United, there is still a long way to go in terms of getting it right in midfield.
But Erik ten Hag will point to another positive result against Jurgen Klopp’s side as reason to be cheerful.
