Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has defender Son Heung-min in wake of his slow start to the season.

The Spurs forward has started each of his side’s Premier League games this season, but is yet to score.

Richarlison is now pushing for a start alongside Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski.

However, Conte – speaking to football.london – suggested that Son’s early-season drop-off is due to bad luck.

The Spurs boss seemingly rubbished any suggestions of dropping the £22million man to the bench.

Conte said Son’s attitude and commitment were “always high” and backed him to “gain the right confidence” once he does break his duck.

“You know very well we’re talking about a really really important player for me and for the club,” said the Italian.

“For sure, I think Sonny in the last three games had chances to score but there’s a moment where you’re a bit lucky or a bit unlucky.

“I think no problem with Sonny’s performance, his attitude & commitment is always up very high. I’m happy with his performance and I don’t see any problems with him.

“For sure, you know very well when you’re a striker you like to score and when you score and win you’re happy.

“But at the same time we always have to put the club winning before the interests of ever single player.

“But it’s not a problem. I repeat, he’s an important player, last season he scored 23 goals… No problem.

“No. I’m sure when he goes to score he will gain the right confidence.”

The best is yet to come from Spurs and Son – TBR View

Tottenham have enjoyed an impressive start to the season results-wise, and they’ve done so despite looking a bit sluggish at times.

However, that’s the sign of a quality team – getting results even when not performing outstandingly.

And once Spurs start going up the gears on the pitch, it’ll be exciting to see how they’ll fare results-wise.

Likewise with Son – he may have started the season slowly, but no doubt he’ll eventually pick up and hit form.
