‘Really good’… Micah Richards blown away by £47m Manchester United player vs Tottenham yesterday

Pundit Micah Richards was really impressed with one performance when Manchester United drew with Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

In what proved to be quite an end-to-end affair, Erik ten Hag will probably be content with the result, a game his side could have easily won or lost.

Perhaps the manager will still rue a late missed head by Scott McTominay, but he’ll probably accept that a draw was fair.

Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford’s performances caught the eye of most from a United persuasion – two players who were hugely improved.

Both forwards demonstrated how much better they look when feeling confident and assured in their game.

However, it was a different player entirely that impressed Micah Richards for Man United against Tottenham.

Speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Richards was blown away by Bruno Fernandes’ work rate.

Richards thought the £47m midfielder led by example with his display, channeling his emotion into his hard work.

The pundit was speaking with Gary Lineker who agreed with his sentiments, but did also highlight one concern.

Micah Richards praises Man United’s Bruno Fernandes for Tottenham display

Speaking on the podcast, Richards said: “You know who I thought was really good today but not really on the ball but off the ball, Fernandes. I thought his attitude was brilliant.

“There were certain times where Spurs were on the counter attack and he was running back and leading by example and I just thought his all round attitude today was excellent.

“I know he is always very creative, one of the best creators in the league, but sometimes he gets a bit emotional so the quality in his game you don’t really talk about. But it was his work rate which shone for me.

Lineker replied: “He is very talented. He has a lot going for him. But as you said he can lose the plot occasionally, if things are not going well.”

There’s more work to do

Although the likes of Richards are right to praise United’s Fernandes for his display against Tottenham, there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Ten Hag’s side aren’t producing a consistent message or philosophy in their displays, and it still seems as if it’s all very one game to the next.

Although the answer doesn’t purely lay in the transfer window, perhaps some progress can be made before the month is out.

That being said, Roy Keane has now highlighted one player who showed a ton of desire last night.
