‘Really good’: Harry Maguire says Tottenham have a player who is actually brilliant in the air
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has told England’s official YouTube channel that Tottenham Hotspur have a player in Harry Kane who is actually brilliant in the air.
Kane has been in devastating form for Spurs this season and has already bagged 12 Premier League goals in just 15 appearances.
The 29-year-old has been finding the back of the net frequently under Antonio Conte but he’s yet to open his account at the World Cup.
The England captain has mainly been playing the role of a provider rather than goalscorer in Qatar and has registered three assists in as many games for Gareth Southgate’s men.
Despite this, Maguire has named Kane as one of England’s biggest threats from corners and praised the Spurs man for his ability in the air.
Maguire on Kane
Maguire and John Stones have forged a brilliant partnership in central defence under Southgate and the pair also provide a threat at the other end of the pitch.
England have been really dangerous from dead-ball situations over the past two tournaments and they’ve looked a threat once again over the past ten days.
While speaking on Lions’ Den, Maguire was asked about England’s success in terms of attacking set-pieces.
“We tried to work on a little bit for [John] Stonesy against Wales,” he said.
“We have three or four who can really attack the ball and score from set plays. H Kane is really good at it as well.
“We’re a big threat from it, we work hard at it, it’s not just luck that it comes from!”
Kane has scored some wonderful headers for Spurs and England over the years.
The Englishman has proven to be a threat in the air and will be hoping to benefit from England’s brilliant set-piece routines.
The Spurs talisman will be disappointed to have not got off the mark at the World Cup yet but is still contributing massively to the England side.
Kane didn’t manage to score until the knockout stages during last year’s Euros and he will be hoping history repeats itself this year. He managed to score four goals in three games before the final loss to Italy, after not managing to find the back of the net beforehand.
