A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to put their support behind Emiliano Martinez and let him complete the season for the Gunners in wake of a positive Bernd Leno fitness update.
First-choice goalkeeper Leno was expected to be ruled out for the remainder of the campaign in Arsenal’s second game back after the restart, and the Argentine has held the first-team gloves since.
Although Arsenal were beaten by Brighton on that day, Martinez kept clean sheets in the following two Premier League games – both victories – and was also on the winning side in the FA Cup meeting with Sheffield United.
The 6ft 2in stopper was also in good form against Leicester City, making numerous stops and keeping out a dangerous Kelechi Iheanacho effort through traffic, though he couldn’t do much against Jamie Vardy’s equaliser.
In Arsenal’s team news update ahead of the weekend’s North London Derby, the club announced that Leno is recovering “very well” from his right knee injury.
Indeed, the Gunners update reckons that the Germany ace could return to full training before the end of the current season, which is less than three weeks away.
However, some Arsenal fans think Martinez has done enough to justify seeing out the season at least:
imo Emi Martinez should finish the season considering his form and stuff, but Leno is simply just too good to be benched next year

Probably will tbf. The idea should be to get leno back to 100% for next season

Unpopular opinion: don’t rush him back. Let him rest. Martinez is doing a solid job. Let him finish up the season

Same thought, I would play Emi till his form dips?

Honestly I’d rather play Emi for the rest of the season regardless of when Leno returns. He’s in really good form and there’s no need to rush Leno back. He could be rusty and make simple mistakes if rushed.

That’s sooooo Good to hear! ??
But please, for the love of God, Don’t rush him back in the squad untill he’s Absolutey Fully Recovered. There’s no hurry, and Emi is also doing really well.
