Liverpool striker Divock Origi will be offered a new long-term contract, according to The Mirror. After impressing recently, Liverpool have changed their mind on Origi.
The 24-year-old is out of contract in summer 2020 and Liverpool were weighing up whether to cash in or trigger a short-term contract extension.
But Origi has popped up with some important goals for Liverpool, including the decisive second in the 2-0 Champions League final win over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.
Origi also scored a late winner in the Merseyside derby and bagged twice against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, spearheading a remarkable second leg comeback.
The Belgian striker is now set for a lucrative long-term contract offer. This could see him extend his stay at Anfield to summer 2023 and beyond.
Liverpool fans flocked to Twitter to discuss this latest news. Origi is considered to be a new hero for the Reds after his late-season form. And many believe this contract is justified.
Here are several tweets from Liverpool supporters after finding out that the club were planning to reward Origi with a long-term deal.
Definitely. They don’t need to sign an expensive striker as a backup. I would think they would probably use him more next year late in games to keep the front three fresh.
