Jurgen Klopp was really impressed with young Tyler Morton last night but the Liverpool boss believes that his physicality needs to improve.

The 18-year-old started in midfield yesterday and had a decent game. He got on the ball consistently and wasn’t fazed when put under pressure. His performance is a big positive, but Klopp wants him to become bigger, literally.

The Reds boss labelled Morton as a ‘real talent’ with ‘really good’ technique. However, he admitted that the Liverpool staff now have to help him get a ‘body for football’ so that he can reach the next level.

Klopp: Tyler Morton is a real talent

In his press conference after the 2-0 win, Klopp was quizzed about Morton’s full debut.

He said, as per Liverpool’s official website: “Tyler is obviously a real talent, a real smart footballer.

“You can see this. His natural movements, natural positions, are really good, so he is a real football-smart boy and the technique is really good.

“Now we have to make sure we help him with getting a body for football – he is not too small and not too skinny, but there is still a little bit to come and we have to make him ready for all that.

“It was a very positive impact again tonight.”

Morton’s stats vs Preston

In his 90 minutes on the pitch, Morton had 69 touches of the ball and maintained a stunning 94 per cent passing accuracy. He was successful with four out of his five attempted long balls and lost possession just five times all game. (SofaScore)

That’s an impressive return for an 18-year-old on his full debut, especially in a team who didn’t look great yesterday.

Klopp certainly likes him, which is a good thing for the youngster. He will surely get more chances in the coming months, but he will need to improve his physique to deal with the physicality of the Premier League.
