Real Madrid’s willingness to offload Asensio should offer Tottenham a summer boost

Real Madrid are ready to use Spanish international winger Marco Asensio as bait to help land Eden Hazard during the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

They report that Chelsea will demand £100m in the summer if the European champions want the Belgian but Real believe they can get the cost of the deal down by offering a makeweight.

That’s what they did this summer, sending Mateo Kovacic on loan to Stamford Bridge to sweeten the deal to bring in Thibaut Courtois at the eleventh hour – and they apparently want to repeat the trick again.

But one of Chelsea’s London rivals reportedly (Marca, via Sport Witness) expressed an interest in signing Asensio during December 2018 – Tottenham Hotspur.

And that willingness Real are now showing to offload Asensio may give Spurs renewed encouragement in pursuit of a summer bid for the promising winger.

Tottenham may be unwilling to undergo a part-swap like Chelsea – although offloading Toby Alderweireld, whose contract is dwindling, is one option – but the fact that Real are willing to offload a promising young talent they have already shown an interest in should be a boost for Spurs.

Asensio needs confidence and gametime to develop and he should get both at Tottenham, whereas at Chelsea, Christian Pulisic has already agreed a deal to come in, perhaps as a pre-emptive Hazard replacement.
