Real Madrid boss makes bold Champions League claim about Liverpool

The Frenchman has made an interesting comment after his side booked their place in the next round of the Champions League.

Real Madrid Zinedine Zidane has fired a Champions League warning to Liverpool ahead of the draw for the last 16.

The Frenchman has told the Daily Express that if the two teams are paired when the draw is made, Madrid will prevail and knock the holders out.

Liverpool qualified for the next stage as group winners, beating Salzburg 2-0 during their final group game.

The Spanish giants were bundled into second place by PSG and that could mean a round of 16 showdown for Zidane and Jurgen Klopp.

Zidane isn’t fazed by the prospect of facing the Reds, however.

He told the Daily Express: “If we play Liverpool, we will eliminate them! We can’t do anything about the draw though.”

Zidane’s team are level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga and are enjoying a decent season.

No team in European football is more successful than Real Madrid when it comes to the Champions League crown.

The inclusion of Zidane’s men in the runners-up pot means they are bound to be involved in a cracking tie and that could throw up the prospect of Liverpool.

The runaway Premier League leaders have caught the eye under Klopp. His brand of high-press, energetic football is a joy to watch in full-flow and you wouldn’t back against them winning another Champions League this season.

Jovial

Zidane’s comments are probably all a bit of fun.

He has been in the game long enough to know that playing Liverpool right now won’t be easy.

Following his comments, neutrals will be desperately hoping for the two clubs to be drawn against each other to see if Zidane can put his money where his mouth is and hand a knockout blow to the holders.
