Everton and Newcastle United may now have a huge battle on their hands to land Mohammed Salisu, with Real Madrid reportedly now joining the race.
According to AS, the Spanish giants have been alerted to the form of the Real Valladolid defender and could launch a raid this summer.
Salisu supposedly has a release clause of just €12 million/£10 million, but he could easily go for more than that with several teams monitoring the promising 20-year-old.
Salisu has been in inspired form throughout 2019/20, and is one of the main reasons 15th-placed Valladolid have conceded just 25 goals in 23 games.
That makes them comfortably the best team defensively in the bottom half of the table, with 6ft 3in Salisu a commanding and dominant figure at the back.
Given Real have now entered the race, Everton and Newcastle may struggle to land the talented youngster, following a report from Pucela Fichajes a few months ago.
TBR’s view – Madrid interest a suggestion Salisu is special
Madrid’s reported interest would suggest that Salisu really is the real deal.
The Ghanaian prospect averages 2.6 aerial dues won per 90 minutes according to WhoScored, as well as 5.2 clearances per 90 and 1.4 tackles, which is a suggestion of his dominance at the back.
Everton arguably need Salisu the most as they are currently progressing with just three senior centre-halves.
Salisu’s high ceiling and relatively low valuation should see him become a viable option this summer, but they may be powerless to do a deal with Madrid now lurking.
