Everton fans will be the first to admit that it’s not too often that Real Madrid come knocking for one of their players.
Thomas Gravesen was the last Everton player to leave the club for Real Madrid, making his move back in January 2005.

In terms of arrivals from Madrid, Royston Drenthe joined the club on loan in 2011 and James Rodriguez was the most recent move, joining permanently in 2020.
But given the improvements Everton have made of late under Sean Dyche, their players are once again getting recognition from Europe’s top sides.
Amadou Onana is now wanted by both Manchester United and Arsenal in January according to reports.
However, it’s Jarrad Branthwaite who Real Madrid have their eyes on.
According to Mail Sport, former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti would be keen to recruit the £75m-rated defender next summer, a move that may appeal to the centre-back.
As well as earning himself a new contract of late, 21-year-old Branthwaite must surely now be playing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England thoughts.
It’s not too often a talent of Branthwaite’s quality comes along, who’s currently being complemented by James Tarkowski at Everton.
And in line with this report, there would seem little chance of Everton letting their new star leave mid-season.
Real Madrid want to sign Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite next summer
Of course, when Europe’s elite do come knocking for the Everton defender the club should be in a strong position to negotiate.
Branthwaite’s new contract puts Dyche’s side in control of his future, and it’ll certainly be interesting to see what offers do transpire.

Although Onana is said to want to join a top Premier League club, there’s been no indication that Branthwaite is in a rush.
A loan spell at PSV Eindhoven looks to have really paid dividends with the defender returning a much more confident and well-rounded profile.
Everton fans must be very relieved to finally have a permanent partner for Tarkowksi – a position that has proved a real issue in recent years.
That being said, those Everton fans will now be braced for Real Madrid’s interest in a few months time.
