Liverpool striker, Roberto Firmino is a target for Real Madrid, as the Spanish giants look to identify replacements for Karim Benzema.
The Brazilian forward has just entered the last 18 months of his contract at Anfield. And that, according to reports from Calciomercato, has caught the attention of Madrid and their manager, Zinedine Zidane.
Firmino has been integral to Liverpool’s success this season under Jurgen Klopp. Despite scoring only six times in the Premier League, the striker is seen as vital to how the Reds play.
He has often been lauded for his ability to play unselfishly and bring others into play. Playing as the number nine in the team, Firmino is often seen as the player who creates space for the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah to thrive in.
However, Real Madrid have also seemingly noticed this form too. Despite the aforementioned Benzema signing a contract extension in December, the club seems keen on finding a long-term replacement.
TBR View – Liverpool need to turn down any offers that come their way]
It would be foolish and bordering on silly for Liverpool to even entertain offers for Roberto Firmino.
He is simply too important to them. His hold up play, movement, and work ethic are all things which would be hard to replace. Furthermore, he is well adapted to Jurgen Klopp’s methods and way of playing.
The only way the Reds would sell is for a world-record fee. That has to be the thinking at the club if Madrid are serious.
When you factor in the cost of replacements plus his value to the Liverpool team, then it makes sense.
In Roberto Firmino, Liverpool have a world-class striker. Real Madrid will always have that lure about them, of course.
However, on this occasion, Liverpool needs to meet the Spaniards with a flat ‘no’, and simply move on.
