Gareth Bale has claimed in a press conference while on Wales duty that he is planning to return to Real Madrid in the summer, despite remaining on loan at Tottenham Hotspur – but Madrid fans would rather he stayed at Spurs.
Bale, 31, joined Tottenham last summer in a move that saw the 83-time Wales international return to the club he left for Madrid in the summer of 2013 – which at the time, was a club-record fee. He has since struggled for form, and his pinnacle fitness.
Of late, the ex-Southampton man has improved his form – but perhaps somewhat in glimpses. He has now scored 10 goals in 25 league and cup appearances for the North London club. It is believed there is an option for a second loan spell at Spurs next term.
However, it appears Bale has a different stance. He has been quoted by The Athletic as stating that the plan is to return to Madrid this summer, rather than extending his stay with Spurs – despite being treated somewhat harshly by Madrid’s supporters.

“It’s no distraction for me coming into the Euros,” Bale said, when asked about his future at Tottenham – or Real Madrid. “The original plan was only to do a season at Spurs, then after the Euros, I’ll still have a year left at Madrid and my plan is to go back.
“That’s as far as I’ve planned to be honest. Over the last few years, this is probably the most match fitness I’ve had. I’m feeling fresh and ready to go. We focus on these games for Wales, which are very important. We forget club life and concentrate on this.”
Madrid fans reacted to the news that Bale is looking to return to Madrid, where he has a year left on his contract – and many supporters have urged the ex-Southampton man to stay at Tottenham and sign for them, rather than coming back to Madrid.
