Cody Gakpo is lighting up the World Cup in Qatar with his goals and it’s become abundantly clear just why Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool are keen.
Gakpo has three goals in the group stages and has lived up to the billing of being one to watch. Of course, he is well known to fans of those aforementioned clubs. All three are said to be keen.
The Athletic reported in October how Gakpo is liked by Arsenal. Since then, Fabrizio Romano has even claimed the Gunners are working hard to do a deal to get Gakpo to sign. Of course, Arsenal don’t have a clear run at the Dutchman and that path looks to be getting more congested.

Defensa Central have now claimed that Real Madrid are now in the mix as well. It’s claimed in that report that of all the players at the World Cup, Gakpo is the one who could convince Madrid to spend big money in January.
Gakpo has been a star for PSV over the last 12 months and has simply carried that form into the World Cup. Thanks to that form, Rio Ferdinand claimed on his YouTube channel that the striker will now cost around £80m.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are expected to add new players in January. A winger/forward, and a new midfielder are thought to be the top priorities.
TBR’s View: Madrid interest in Gakpo a problem for Arsenal
Whenever Real Madrid get a mention it’s always a worry if you’re a club keen on that player. The Spanish side remain the world’s biggest club and players find them hard to turn down.
Of course, Arsenal can offer Gakpo a lot. They are on the up under Mikel Arteta and are blooding a young, vibrant squad capable of getting even better.
Gakpo can do little else but keep on scoring goals. From there, his future will take care of itself.
