'Real enthusiasm and endeavour': BBC pundit raves about £35k-a-week Leeds ace

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford came in for huge praise by BBC Sport pundit Michael Brown during his impressive performance last night.

The 27-year-old had an evening to remember as he scored a sensational hat-trick in the 3-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa, helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side to third in the table.

After a goalless first half in the Midlands, Bamford slotted home on the rebound in the 55th minute following Rodrigo’s saved effort.

Bamford then smashed in a stunning left-footed strike from the edge of the box on 67 minutes before curling home a deft effort inside the box seven minutes later.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Prior to this season, the Whites forward had scored just once in 27 Premier League appearances, but now he has six in six.

“Every question was asked when Leeds were not getting over the line in the Championship,” Brown said on BBC Sport (21:33).

“Bamford missed chances, and people were questioning should he be changed? Bielsa picked him every time for what he brings, not just his goal scoring.

“Now to get to the Premier League and prove the doubters wrong, getting goals. He’s shown real enthusiasm and endeavour.”

Even as Leeds got promoted last term, some fans didn’t think Bamford was clinical enough at Championship level, while lenty more people then questioned whether he’d be able to cut it in the Premier League.

Needless to say, the Whites striker has answered his critics in style, while Bielsa deserves credit for persevering with the £35,000-a-week ace amid increasing scrutiny, a decision which has reaped dividends.
