Real Betis president Angel Haro has been quoted by French outlet Foot Mercato as saying that Nabil Fekir will remain at Real Betis for at least another season – amid reported interest from both Newcastle United and Arsenal.
Fekir, 26, joined Real Betis last summer from Lyon and has since had a hand in 13 goals during his 22 league appearances for the Spanish side. The 2018 World Cup winner, though, is likely to be on the shortlist of many sides this summer.
Foot Mercato claimed in a previous report that the versatile ex-Lyon star is a target for Newcastle, with the player valued at a fee of £43million. The Mirror states that Arsenal are also keen on landing Fekir.
Asked about Fekir’s future, Haro has been quoted as saying that the French ace will remain at Betis for at least another season despite reported interest from both Arsenal and Newcastle.
TBR’s view – Fekir would have been a top signing
Indeed, Fekir would have taken Newcastle into Europe. The player boasts enormous talent and is a fully-fledged France international. At Arsenal, Fekir could have been the club’s long-term replacement for Mesut Ozil.
A shame then, that Fekir will not be on his way to Tyneside or the Emirates. Should that situation change, both clubs need to be on red alert and look to lure him to England.
