Joe Willock says that he is fit and ready to start for Newcastle United against Aston Villa at the weekend, after an interview with the BBC.

Willock ready

Newcastle are set to play Villa on the back of a defeat against West Ham United on opening day.

Willock was at St. James’ Park to watch that game, where he was given a rapturous reception from the Tyneside crowd.

And how Newcastle could have done with Willock during the contest.

The young midfielder scored eight goals in 14 games during his first stint.

And the news that Willock is fit will surely be music to the ears of Newcastle fans and Steve Bruce.

“I’m feeling fit and ready to play,” Newcastle’s latest signing said. “I’m happy to helping the team in any way I can, whether it’s off the bench or from the start.

“Hopefully we can get the three points, we need it.”

Straight into the team?

If Willock is fit to start it will actually be a surprise if Newcastle don’t throw him straight into their line-up.

The problem for the Magpies at the weekend was their defensive vulnerability rather than their scoring threat, though.

Newcastle looked very impressive going forward, particularly in the first half, but they were picked apart time after time by West Ham on the counter attack.

Villa also lost on opening day, meaning whoever fails to pick up the three points at the weekend while immediately look under some pressure.
