'Ready to pay': Journalist claims Tottenham have 'made a move' for £44m World Cup defender

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to pay the £44million clause in Kim Min-jae’s Napoli contract next summer.

This is according to Italian journalist Raffaele Auriemma, who claims Spurs have already ‘made a move’ for the 26-year-old.

Tottenham are currently taking stock while the World Cup is under way and planning for the second half of the season.

Spurs have had their fair share of issues in defence, and Antonio Conte seems eager to bolster his ranks.

Admittedly, this would be a summer deal, with Kim reportedly having a £44m release clause which is only active in July.

Auriemma, speaking to Tutto Napoli – via Sport Witness – discussed the situation with the South Korea international.

“Speaking of strong players, let’s talk about Min-jae Kim,” he said.

“I’m receiving worrying information regarding the possibility that someone could enforce the clause worth €50m because there is the possibility from the 1st to the 15th of July to buy him by paying the rescission clause.

“Diplomacy is underway to try to extend the agreement between Napoli and the player by removing the clause. We will see if Napoli will succeed.

“In the meantime, there is already one club that has made a move.

“We are talking about Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, who have made it known that they are ready to pay that €50m clause so that two South Koreans can play together: Kim and Son.

“This confirms how the Premier League is fertile ground for this type of footballer.”

Top player, but he’ll be a challenge for Spurs to sign – TBR View

Kim has been a revelation for Napoli this season after joining as a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly.

He was named Serie A’s Player of the Month in September, just his second month in the Italian top flight.

Kim’s efforts have helped Napoli establish an eight-point lead at the top of Serie A and top their Champions League group.

He’s a great shout for Spurs, but he won’t be easy to sign. Napoli won’t want to let him go (certainly not for cheap) and there will be loads of other clubs in pursuit.
