'Ready to go': 23-year-old can't wait to finally link up with Arsenal

Arsenal signed United States youth international Auston Trusty late on in the January transfer window.

The new Gunners recruit, speaking to the Colorado Rapids media team, expressed his excitement at the move.

Arsenal landed the 23-year-old defender from the MLS side, where he’ll remain on loan until the summer.

Trusty will officially depart for England on July 17, as per Colorado’s official club statement.

The Gunners will subsequently look to loan him in Europe for 2022-23 to further progress his development.

“It’s just surreal really,” Trusty said.

“It’s been a long process, been a long way, a dream of mine since I was a little kid.

“Arsenal was actually my first team I ever played for when I was in little club.

“Really speechless – it’s such a big club, a big opportunity and just honoured to be in the position I am today.

“I’m just thankful and ready to go.”

According to the Evening Standard, the deal involves no fee.

Colorado are part of the same Kroenke Sports & Entertainment group which owns Arsenal.

Trusty joined Colorado from Philadelphia Union in November 2019.

He has made 41 appearances, helping the Rapids finish top of the Western Conference in the 2021 MLS regular season.

Trusty recently earned a call-up to the American national team’s January training camp.

However, he is yet to make his international bow on a senior level.

“Caught the eye of several European clubs”

“Auston is coming off an exceptional season in 2021 in which he played a vital role in helping us finish atop the Western Conference for the first time in our history,” said Pádraig Smith, Colorado Rapids Executive VP & General Manager.

“We remain committed to bringing through the top young players from Colorado and across the United States and to providing them with a platform to flourish, achieve success in MLS and earn the chance to make a move to Europe.

“Auston’s outstanding performances caught the eye of several European clubs over the past 12 months and we are privileged to be part of an organization with the reach and scale of KSE that allows us to help a player of Auston’s potential further his development and career aspirations in Europe.”
