Reading fans react as Rangers reportedly eye £8million-rated Josh Laurent
Rangers are reportedly battling Premier League club Brighton in the race to sign highly-rated Reading midfielder Josh Laurent this summer, with the Championship ace valued at £8million – and Reading fans are seemingly ready to cash in.
Laurent, 26, only joined Reading last summer on a free from Shrewsbury Town – but has starred for the Royals. He played in 45 of their 46 Championship fixtures, as Reading narrowly missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs.
It was a much-improved season for Reading, though, who had previously finished in a lowly 14th place. Laurent was crucial to that, but his form has not gone unnoticed by clubs bigger than Reading – namely in the form of Rangers and Brighton.
The Sun claim that both Rangers and Brighton are keen on Laurent, with Steven Gerrard looking to beef up his midfield ahead of a potential Champions League campaign next season. Steven Davis is now 36 and will need cover in holding midfield.
Reading fans reacted to the news and given that Laurent only signed a two-year deal when joining Reading last summer, many are seemingly aware that raking in £8million they bought for nothing is probably good business. Others want more.

Here we go. Not what we needed. Only came in on a 2 year deal but would be surprised if there’s not a clause to extend by a year, if not that’s criminal. Take the money if we can’t tie him down long term. #ReadingFC https://t.co/lWjdo8GpzS

If we get offered even £4m for Laurent it’s be very tough to turn down, one year left on his contract and signed on a free. £8m would be an incredible figure. https://t.co/DJZiOg9aoi
