RB Leipzig have reportedly made a rumoured Liverpool target their first option to replace Dani Olmo ahead of the playmaker’s move to FC Barcelona.
Barcelona reached a £53m agreement to sign Olmo from Leipzig earlier this week, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham also in the race for the 26-year-old, who was key to Spain’s winning run to the Euro 2024 championship.
With Olmo heading back to his boyhood club, Leipzig are now both in the money and in the hunt for a replacement, with the German club likely to find another project player to develop and potentially move on for profit in the years to come.
And it appears that a Liverpool target has emerged as Leipzig’s top choice to replace Olmo.

Leipzig eye Liverpool-linked Rayan Cherki to replace Olmo
According to Florian Plettenberg, Olympique Lyonnais star Rayan Cherki has been identified as Leipzig’s first option when it comes to replacing Olmo, with the French youngster available for €17m (£14m).
Plettenberg wrote: “RB Leipzig, now pushing to sign a top replacement for Dani Olmo with Rayan Cherki as one of their top candidates as revealed. No total verbal agreement between RB/Cherki yet but talks ongoing. The deal with Dortmund is currently off. Asking price at this price: €15m + €2m. More (expensive) options: Johan Bakayoko (PSV) and Francisco Conceição (Porto).
With Liverpool making contact for Cherki earlier in the summer, Leipzig identifying the Lyon star as a replacement for Olmo could have big consequences on the Reds’ pursuit for the attacking midfielder this window.
Hailed as ‘exceptional’ via TNT Sports, Liverpool might be in a race against time to land Cherki with Leipzig now interested, with the Bundesliga side an obvious appeal for the French youth international.

Cherki looks destined to snub Reds for Leipzig
Leipzig have formed quite the reputation for themselves in recent years as one of the best clubs amongst Europe’s elite when it comes to player development, with the entire Red Bull network cracking the code to an exact science.
And for Cherki, joining Leipzig feels like a sure-bet given the position the German side are trying to fill this summer, with Olmo a unique player who few in the world can replace.
As a result, Liverpool might need to expect that they’re going to miss out on Cherki this summer, with the attacking midfielder a dream fit for Leipzig as a replacement for Olmo.
