RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has given his verdict on the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the atmosphere within following his side’s Champions League last-16 first-leg win over Jose Mourinho’s Spurs on Wednesday night.
Tottenham welcomed the Bundesliga high-flyers to North London hoping to make the most of home advantage but now have it all to do in the second leg as the visitors ran out 1-0 winners, courtesy of a Timo Werner penalty in the 58th minute.
Indeed, the scoreline ended up flattering Spurs, who were second best throughout, with Hugo Lloris denying Leipzig time and time again with a superb goalkeeping display, though he was very much powerless to keep out Werner’s spot kick.

Speaking after the game, Nagelsmann praised Tottenham’s new ground and hailed the noisy and loud atmosphere, particularly in the first ten minutes of the encounter.
“It’s a great stadium,” he told BT Sport, as quoted by BBC Sport (22:47). “The first ten minutes were very noisy, very loud. In the end, it was a pleasure to be part of this game and I’m glad we have the win.”
TBR View:
Nagelsmann is just the latest in visitors to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to comment on how impressive the ground is and the atmosphere produced within.
Sadly, a depleted Spurs side – Mourinho likened the match as “going to fight with a gun without bullets” (BBC Sport) – could not match up to the Bundesliga title hopefuls on the night in this wonderful stadium.
Three weeks down the line, Tottenham have it all to do away from home – and what’s particularly worrying is another Mourinho post-match comment regarding his personnel issues – “we really are in trouble“.
