RB Leipzig want midfielder Emile Smith Rowe as part of any deal for central defender Dayot Upamecano, according to the Daily Mail.

They report that the German side, who will play in the Champions League next season, want the midfielder either on loan or on a permanent deal if they let the defender go to the Emirates Stadium.

The report also says that they have rejected a £55 million offer from the Gunners for Upamecano, but Arsenal are confident that a deal can be done before Thursday’s deadline.

Arsenal apparently value Smith Rowe at £25 million so it remains to be seen what impact he could have on any potential deal.

Arsenal have already signed a central defender in the shape of William Saliba, but he won’t properly arrive until next season following another campaign on loan with Saint Etienne.

The Gunners need something now and it’s no surprise that they’ve gone back into the market for Upamecano, but whether they can afford him is another story.

Getting Smith Rowe out on loan might be a wise idea, but selling a promising young player who showed flashes of his quality last season before an injury would be a big call from Unai Emery.
