Ray Parlour wants Arsenal board to back Mikel Arteta for top four push

Former Arsenal midfielder, Ray Parlour, has called on the Arsenal board to back Mikel Arteta in the transfer market if they truly believe he’s the right man.

Arteta has enjoyed an inconsistent spell so far with the Gunners. Results have been up and down throughout his tenure, however, he has delivered an FA Cup and a Community Shield already.

Further, he seems to be sticking to a way and method of playing. And Parlour believes that the Gunners board need to give him time, and money, in order to see the fruits of Arteta’s labour.

“He’s learned a little bit from Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola as well, but I would give him a chance. It might take a couple of transfer windows, look at Jurgen Klopp, he got an opportunity. He came into Liverpool and there was a plan,” Parlour told Talksport.

Like with Klopp at Liverpool, it could be some time before Arsenal see success regularly or a challenge for the title. But Parlour believes the board has to front up too and back Arteta with funds.

“Arteta has got to show he’s got a plan going forward. It might take three years to try to challenge that top four or try to challenge for the league. But we know money does make it easier and that’s where the board come in. If they think they’ve got the right man, please give him a chance by giving him a little bit more money,” he added.

Arsenal did sign players in the summer. Thomas Partey arrived for big money, while Gabriel Magalhaes also came in while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was given a new deal.

TBR View: Arteta is getting a lot of things right at Arsenal, Parlour is right here

There’s little point in Arsenal losing patience with Mikel Arteta quickly. The former Everton and Gunners midfielder is doing a decent enough job and is overseeing a big overhaul in players, too.

Arsenal need to be patient and, as Parlour says, back their man from board level in terms of signings.

Only then, can we sit back and fully judge the Arsenal boss in terms of him being a success or not.
