Ray Parlour says one Spurs player is ‘not performing’ and has got to ‘be careful’

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is “not performing” and has “got to be careful” over his future at Spurs, according to talkSPORT pundit Ray Parlour.

The 24-year-old has missed out on six Tottenham matchday squads this season, making just six appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side, with a mere three starts in all competitions.

Furthermore, Alli has now been subbed off at half time in two matches this term, first coming off against Everton in the Premier League and then at Antwerp in the Europa League on Thursday.

Although the England international got into some good positions and set Carlos Vinicius free with a floated ball, Mourinho decided to take him off at the break along with three other players.

“I don’t know where he goes from here,” Parlour told talkSPORT. “You ask me why he’s not being picked, that’s why he’s not being picked, because he’s not performing.

“His confidence is low. I think every footballer’s gone through it, when you’re having a bad time, and you’ve just got to keep training, working hard and hopefully your form will turn around but at the moment he’s probably really low.

“He’s got to be careful because he set his bar so high as a young man when he first got his opportunity. But suddenly he’s at this crossroads in his career – ‘where am I going with it?'”

While Alli may have struggled for form at times, the talent and quality is there, as shown by his impressive displays against Maccabi Haifa and Manchester United.

However, he’s getting little game time as it is, and being hauled off at half time twice in one season, he has some serious thinking to do over his future come January if things persist as they are.
