Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is so good, he could’ve played for the Invincibles.

The Arsenal striker hasn’t had the best season in front of goal, but he’s nonetheless shown flashes of brilliance and has managed to make it into double figures.

Three of Aubameyang’s goals this term came in Arsenal’s last Premier League outing, a 4-2 win over Leeds United.

As well as his hat-trick, the Gabon international recorded his highest total of shots in a Premier League game this season (5) and his highest total of touches in the opposition box (9) too.

Parlour, part of the class of 2004 that went the whole league campaign unbeaten, never had any doubts about the 31-year-old and insisted he would have been a great addition to their squad.

“One-on-ones he’s very good at, he doesn’t miss a lot,” he told talkSPORT ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash.

“He went through that barren spell after signing a new contract but everyone goes through a bad spell and he proved against Leeds that he’s a top striker.

“Hopefully he can carry on until the end of the season.

“Certainly in our Invincibles team and our 2001-02 team he’d be a great addition. Even if he didn’t start the game, imagine bringing Aubameyang off the bench.

“We used to bring Sylvain Wiltord and Nwankwo Kanu, two great strikers, off the bench and Aubameyang would certainly be in that squad and probably play a lot of the games as well.

“He’s been a brilliant player for Arsenal.”

It was a great day for Aubameyang last Sunday, looking back to his best, scoring a hat-trick in a position that many fans have wanted to see him back in for a while, and best of all, looking happy.

Sadly he couldn’t follow it up on Thursday against Benfica as he spurned several golden chances, but he’ll have the opportunity to make amends this Sunday as Arsenal host Manchester City.
