Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has claimed that Gunners prodigy Bukayo Saka could be just as good as Manchester City gem Phil Foden.

Saka has enjoyed a stratospheric rise to the top of the game over the past two years, and is now one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s team sheet.

The 19-year-old made his Arsenal breakthrough in 2019-20, clocking up 39 appearances in all competitions and weighing in with four goals and 11 assists.

This season, meanwhile, he has registered 28 appearances across all competitions, scoring five and assisting five.

Saka was superb once again for Arsenal in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Leeds at the Emirates Stadium, running Ezgjan Alioski ragged and bagging an assist.

Parlour was on talkSPORT on Monday (6:27pm) and responded to his co-commentator poking fun at an Arsenal fan who tweeted that Saka is better than Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling and Foden.

“Well, I certainly believe that he could be just as good as Foden and people like that,” he said. “I know he is only a year older, Foden.”

Fans, pundits and peers are running out of superlatives for Saka, a player of the highest calibre who, let’s not forget, is still just 19 and is most likely capable of so much more as he continues to progress, develop and gain more experience.

Arsenal may have had a bit of a rollercoaster season so far this term – as was the case in 2019-20 – but things look to be heading in the right direction as a club, and having Saka in the ranks is such a boost.
