Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has been singing the praises of Tottenham Hotspur this morning. The former England midfielder was discussing Tottenham’s recent form on talkSPORT (11/02/2019; 07:15) and gave huge credit to Mauricio Pochettino for sticking to his guns in the January transfer window.
“Credit to Pochettino there. To get these players to the level they’re playing at, without their best players.
“He didn’t panic. I think most Spurs fans panicked in the transfer window (thinking) we need a player, we need two players.
“They looked at it and went there’s nobody out there that’s going to improve the team and we’re going to stick with the player’s we’ve got.”
Despite injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli, as well as Mousa Dembele’s exit, Tottenham did not sign a player in January.
It means no new faces from Tottenham this season after a similarly barren summer.
But Spurs have still managed to perform brilliantly, despite the absence of two excellent players.
The likes of Fernando Llorente and Harry Winks have stepped up, whilst the sooner-than-expected return of Heung-min Son from the Asian Cup has also helped immensely.
Tottenham were linked with a plethora of names in January and for some, it was a surprise not to see any new faces arrive but Pochettino decided to stick not twist and at the moment, it seems to be paying off.
With Kane and Alli getting closer to first-team training every day, Tottenham might just be ready t keep chase with Liverpool and Manchester City.
