Ray Parlour offers verdict on Arsenal’s start to the season and top four hopes

The former Arsenal midfielder says his old club has a long way to go.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has urged the Gunners not to get too carried away with their 100 per cent start to the season, as per TalkSport.

It was an exciting end to the transfer window for Parlour’s old club but he feels that they are nowhere near Manchester City or Liverpool, who they face at Anfield on Saturday.

He said of Arsenal’s impending Merseyside trip: “You’re so far behind them at the moment. They started well against Newcastle, got the job done against Burnley but that’s two games you expect them to win. I’m not getting carried away.

“I’ve heard a few shows saying, ‘we can challenge for the league’ – they’re a million miles away from Manchester City and Liverpool. How many Arsenal players would get into the Liverpool team?”

TBR’s View – Emery can follow Klopp’s blueprint for reawakening a sleeping giant

The first thing Jurgen Klopp did at Liverpool was made the team fun to watch again, with genuine attacking intent and energy.

Unai Emery’s summer signings offer him an opportunity to do something similar at Arsenal, with a squad that is perhaps as top-heavy as the one Klopp inherited at Anfield.

One building block for the Reds were getting back into the Champions League and as much as Arsene Wenger was mocked when he suggested that represented success at Arsenal years ago, that would represent a successful campaign this time around.
