Ray Parlour has been asked by Goal whether the 2003-04 Invincible Arsenal side would beat the current incarnation of Manchester City.
The former England man is known for being outspoken but even he found it too tough to call between the two sides, from very different eras.
He said: “It’s very hard to compare. It really is. It’s different eras. We were very good in our era and obviously Manchester City and Liverpool are very good in this current era.
“Who knows? We had a very strong team, a powerful team, but Man City have been a different class. You can’t compare. They’re both excellent teams to watch. I’m just hoping Arsenal can get to that stage again with this current squad.”

Arsenal fans might have been hoping for a more bullish answer from Parlour but perhaps the fact he didn’t definitively back his own side means he knows the current City would win.
That Gunners side was more physical than this City team, but the way football has moved on in the past fifteen years, would Pep Guardiola’s side be too quick and fit?
It would be an interesting battle, but what’s more important for the Gunners fans is that they see their side trying to get to that level, which at the moment is a long way off.
