Ravel Morrison and Matt Jarvis react to latest news coming out of West Ham
Ravel Morrison and Matt Jarvis are among those to respond after Winston Reid confirmed he has parted company with West Ham, after 11 years.
Reid, 33, joined West Ham in the summer of 2010 from Danish side FC Midtjylland and he went on to captain the Hammers during his 11-year stay.
In that time, Reid has played 222 times for the Hammers in all competitions. But he last featured for the London side in March 2018 against Swansea.
Since then, he has endured a nightmare spell with injury – and gone on loan to both MLS side Sporting Kansas City, and the Brentford in the second tier.
Now, Reid has left the club after agreeing a mutual termination of his contract – and posted an emotional message to Hammers fans after.
Reid leaves West Ham: Jarvis and Morrison react on Instagram
It is a move that needed to happen. Regardless of West Ham’s situation at centre-back, too long had gone without him playing in claret and blue.
He needed to go, probably a long time ago. The New Zealand international needs to get his career back on track and a move to MLS would be ideal.
Indeed, the Hammers have brought in Craig Dawson and Kurt Zouma over the past 12 months, with Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop also options.
Declan Rice can also play at centre-back. In a back three, Aaron Cresswell has looked good on the left side of a three-man defence at times.
So, Reid had to go – and he finally has done. A well-liked character, plenty reacted including Morrison, Jarvis, Adrian and Robert Snodgrass.
