Aston Villa have signed Wesley Moraes for a big-money fee this summer. The Villans have secured a coup by bringing in the powerful Brazilian striker from Club Brugge.
But it seems that their summer spending has not stopped at that. Aston Villa have also been linked with a Championship striker. According to The Mirror’s Live Transfer Blog [17:37], Rodriguez will only cost £5m this summer with a further £5m next summer.
At this bargain price, a host of top-flight clubs have been alerted. Aston Villa are among the potentially interested parties with Leicester City and newly-promoted Norwich City and Sheffield United also keen on Rodriguez.
Aston Villa fans on Jay Rodriguez
But the 29-year-old would not be a popular choice at Aston Villa, despite scoring 22 goals in the Championship last season. This is because of his handball goal against Aston Villa in the league.
Rodriguez is a pantomime villain character at Villa Park. But Dean Smith might be tempted to take a punt on him at such a low asking price.
After reports of a £5m move broke on Twitter, here are several tweets from Aston Villa fans discussing whether Rodriguez would be a good signing.
Don’t care about what he did last season. That’s over. Good player. Cheap too.
