'Rather have Elneny back': Some Arsenal fans react to midfielder's display against Brighton

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Dani Ceballos’ display against Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Gunners on-loan midfielder put in a decent display against Manchester City in midweek after he came off the bench for Granit Xhaka, but couldn’t follow it up on the south coast.

Ceballos started the afternoon well enough but soon dropped off and, by the time the first half was over, he was largely anonymous.

He was a little more involved in the second half but failed to really grab the game by the scruff of the neck, something he should be doing.

In addition, the Spaniard wasn’t quick enough in releasing Hector Bellerin down the right wing and was also slow when closing down the cross which led to Brighton’s first goal.

As a result, some Arsenal fans voiced their criticism on social media:

Ceballos is actually slowing the game down.

No chance of a 5th place finish now. (Was there ever?) Just give Ceballos back to Real Madrid already, and play the kids until the end of the season. Would honestly rather don’t qualify for the EL.

Ceballos does not offer enough to be keeping out players that could be important to Arsenal’s future. He keeps play ticking over & is good for a highlight every now & then but he’s just not special enough to not give somebody else a shot IMO.

Just not sure I know what Dani Ceballos is for. He is a tidy player but, put it this way, if he doesn’t play what is it that Arsenal lose?

Nobody is in the mood to listen to a positive, but I felt Bukayo Saka did well in central midfield. Really impressed with his movement and awareness. On the other hand, I don’t think Guendouzi and Ceballos had their best games – we were way too open in midfield.

The result keeps Arsenal ninth in the table on 40 points from 30 games, with Spurs a place and two points ahead, and fourth-placed Chelsea eight points ahead with a game in hand.
