Kostas Tsimikas hasn’t had the best time at Liverpool so far, to put it mildly.

The Reds signed the Greece international last summer from Olympiakos for a reported £11.8million fee.

However, Tsimikas has made just six appearances for Liverpool, and has only played five minutes of Premier League football.

Despite little game time at Anfield, he remains firmly in John van’t Schip’s plans at international level.

Tsimikas was named in the starting XI as the Euro 2004 champions faced 2008 and 2012 victors Spain in Granada on Thursday.

Greece conceded in the 33rd minute as Alvaro Morata fired home from close range, not long after Dani Olmo had struck the woodwork.

However, the visitors were handed a way back into the game when substitute Inigo Martinez brought Giorgos Masouras down in the box.

Greece were awarded a penalty and Anastasios Bakasetas duly converted to restore parity, culminating in both sides sharing the spoils.

Tsimikas put in a great performance, making five tackles, one clearance, blocking one shot and playing three accurate long balls, according to Whoscored.

He also snuffed out the threat posed by Manchester City ace Ferran Torres, with plenty of fans commenting on social media:

Given how much Andrew Robertson has played this season, Klopp really needs to start giving Tsimikas more game time.

It’s a win-win situation – Robertson gets some much-needed rest and Tsimikas can kickstart his Reds career.

If he can easily keep one of the Premier League leaders’ most highly rated rising stars at bay, then he can surely handle himself against most other opponents.
