Raphinha reacts as Leeds wave goodbye to midfielder on deadline day
Raphinha has reacted on Instagram with a touching message to Helder Costa, after the Portuguese winger left Leeds to join Valencia on loan.
Costa, 27, has fallen even further down the pecking order at Elland Road. Leeds moved to bring in Wales ace Dan James on deadline day.
The Portugal star was already on the bench, with Jack Harrison and Raphinha first choice. Now, he is fourth choice and has decided to go.
Valencia were linked with a move in the early stages of the window. They eventually got him after James was secured for £25million.
It sees Costa depart, after 71 appearances for the Whites and 19 goal involvements – scoring eight and laying on 11 assists.
Costa leaves Leeds: Raphinha reacts to Valencia move
Ultimately, it is a move that had to happen for the good of Costa’s career. With James, Harrison and Raphinha – Costa’s chances of game time are zero.
A move to Valencia is a brilliant move for the ex-Monaco, Benfica and Wolves midfielder. His chances of game time are obviously much larger.
While he might not be a regular, he has competition from the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Yunus Musah and Denis Cheryshev.
But Guedes is better up top, Musah is still learning his craft and Cheryshev has struggled to replicate his brilliant 2018 World Cup form.
So, a move to Valencia is a good one for Costa – especially as the La Liga side have a permanent option. Raphinha reacted on Instagram.
Three were sold on deadline day – Costa, Jordan Stevens and Robbie Gotts. Translation: “Good luck my brother, may God bless your path.”
