Raphinha and Luke Ayling were amongst those to reply to Patrick Bamford on Instagram after the striker marked his return with the stoppage-time equaliser in Leeds United’s draw with Brentford on Sunday.

Bamford handed Leeds a big boost this past week. He featured for the under-23s on Monday having been sidelined with an ankle injury since September.

The clash with Crystal Palace came too soon for the 28-year-old. But he was fit enough to be included on the bench at the weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa must have hoped that a return for Bamford would prove to be the icing on the cake for Leeds, rather than a last throw of the dice. But unfortunately, with 22 minutes remaining, the Whites found themselves 2-1 down to the Bees after a second-half turnaround.

Thankfully, Leeds were able to score that equaliser in stoppage-time. Bamford reacted fastest as a corner was fired in by Raphinha, deflecting the ball in off the bar with his knee.

Understandably, Bamford could not contain himself, taking his shirt off and sprinting towards the crowd.

And following the draw, he took to social media to comment on his return and the result. Plenty of his teammates lauded him in response…

Bamford return could be turning point for Leeds

Leeds have generally looked a lot better in recent weeks than they had done in the early stages of the campaign. Their big problem however, has tended to be turning pressure into chances. And not having a natural striker for a lot of those moments has not helped.

Tyler Roberts, Rodrigo and Daniel James have all shone at various stages. But Bamford’s return could be huge for Bielsa’s men.

He has stepped up with two crucial goals already this season. Leeds fans will be desperately hoping that there are many more to come.
