There can surely be no question that Joe Aribo has done all he can to make former manager Lee Bowyer eat his words since making his summer move to Rangers.
Bowyer expressed disappointment to South London News as the midfielder neared a switch to Ibrox. He suggested that it was not a move that would further Aribo’s career.
But less than four months later, Bowyer’s comments look incredibly foolish. Aribo has played a key role in Rangers’s ascent to the top of the Scottish Premiership table. They also find themselves in the group-stages of the Europa League.
And it is since moving to Rangers that Aribo has been given his chance for Nigeria. Remarkably, the 23-year-old’s record for the country now reads two caps, two goals.
The latest of which came in the friendly with Brazil at the weekend. It was Aribo who opened the scoring 10 minutes before the break with a brilliant burst into the box.
His quick feet saw him dance by the Brazil defenders before he smashed home an effort from close range.
And after the game – which would end in a 1-1 draw thanks to Casimero’s equaliser early on in the second-half – Aribo took to social media to express his delight at scoring another goal.
Here is Aribo’s message on Twitter after the strike…
Tough game against a top Brazil side! Team put in a shift till the end. Delighted to have got a goal!! Thank you to all the supporters that came out tonight and also everyone supporting worldwide! 🦅🇳🇬 @NGSuperEagles #SoarSuperEagles pic.twitter.com/kdI6JrN0Mi
