Rangers youngster Serge Atakayi was in the news recently after he appeared to plead for more football at the club on his Instagram account. He posted a story on his profile which stated ‘let me play again’ after a period of time away from the Rangers first-team and Colts squad.
The Finland youth international had not featured for the Colts this season and has not played for Steven Gerrard’s first-team since making his debut against Motherwell back in November. He got injured in that game, requiring surgery, before being sent to Finland on loan in April, joining SJK.

His absence from the youth section at Rangers was becoming somewhat odd this season but he returned last night. The 20-year-old came on for an injured Brandon Barker as the Colts lost to Partick Thistle 2-0.
Speaking to Rangers TV after the game, it was confirmed the Finn has been out with an injury and he made it clear he was ready to push on again at Ibrox now he was back fighting fit.
“Try to push on. For the manager, I am ready.
“Feeling good, a little bit tired. Long-time no play looking forward to keep training keep pushing hard so that I will be there.”

Clearly, the young attacker feels ready to push on back into the Rangers first-team set-up. Unfortunately, the club’s wide positions are stacked full of talent at the moment and he has a massive uphill task on his hand.
It is, however, refreshing to hear such ambition from a young talent and Rangers fans are certainly unlikely to write off the DR Congo-born star.
However, with his contract expiring in 2020, he needs to have a stellar season with Graeme Murty’s men if he is going to have any chance of a long-term future in Steven Gerrard’s Rangers first-team.
