Glenn Middleton reckons his form has taken a hit because he is trying to overcomplicate things on the pitch.
The talented teenager has spoken honestly about where he’s at right now and admitted that he hasn’t been playing his natural game of late.
He told the media on Friday, as quoted by the club’s official website: “I think at the start I was just taking the game to opposition players and that is what I will always try to do.

“I think the last couple of games I have maybe tried to overcomplicate things and I didn’t really just go for it like I normally should be doing. Hopefully I can get back to that.
“That is what I am on the pitch to do, to run at people and make things happen for the team. I must try and get back to my best at doing that.”
Should there be panic over Middleton?
Middleton has made 21 appearances under Steven Gerrard this term, but only four league starts.
He is in competition for a place on the right wing with Daniel Candeias.

He has not been afforded pitch time since Boxing Day, and has been left out of Gerrard’s matchday squad for two of the last five Premiership matches.
Middleton is still very raw and Gerrard has shown a tendency to protect his young players – Nikola Katic being another example of a player getting less game time than in the beginning.
Having had his appetite wet earlier in the season, Gerrard’s tough love for Middleton might be just what he needs.
