Rangers winger Daniel Candeias is apparently on the verge of joining Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi.
According to Ajansspor, the Portuguese is ready to jump ship to embark on a new challenge after recently being snubbed for the club’s Europa League squad against St. Joseph’s.
The Pedro Caixinha signing made 52 appearances in all competitions last term for the Light Blues, but his chances of regular game time in 2019/20 are getting slimmer as more players join the club.
Steven Gerrard has brought in Sheyi Ojo, Greg Stewart, Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie already, and a loan move for Ryan Kent could still be on the cards. Jamie Murphy is also back in the picture after recovering from a long-term injury.
Candeias could probably count himself unlucky to have been axed against St. Joseph’s.
With one year remaining on his contract, surely Gerrard should be looking to keep hold of the 31-year-old, who still has a lot to offer.
Candeias was often unfairly scapegoated last season, but his engine and passion are two underrated qualities.
On the attacking front though, he actually contributed to more goals in all competitions than Kent in 2018/19 (18 involvements to Kent’s 15), and is surely worth keeping around for a swansong season.
