Rangers boss Steven Gerrard knows he has a tough time trying to keep their main striker Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.
The Colombian has been a sensation in Glasgow since joining Rangers and the Ibrox goal-machine has rightly caught the eye of several clubs across Europe.
Rangers will not want to lose the player but the hope of keeping the attacker at Ibrox might now rest on the big money transfer plans of a team managed by a former Rangers player.
Napoli are said to be keen on Morelos. The Rangers star’s agent Miki Bourari told CalcioNews24 that Italy would be the preference for Gerrard’s 24-year-old stallion.
Should the Italian side make a serious move for Morelos, then Rangers would have little chance of keeping hold of the player, who has scored 29 goals in 46 games in all competitions for Rangers this season.
But, as the Ibrox star’s agent confirmed to the Italian press, Napoli’s interest in Lille attacker Victor Osimhen supersedes any in Morelos.
“Osimhen? Great footballer, if the attacker has arrived in the city and talks to the club, then it means that there is an excellent chance for the deal to be finalised.
“The possible arrival of the Nigerian excludes the signing of another attacker; I’m talking about Alfredo Morelos.”
The Nigerian is a major target for the Serie A side and, as reported by ESPN this week, believe a €70 million (£63m) deal for his services is close.
Rangers fans will be hoping that this deal does go through as it will remove one of the more eye-catching suitors for Morelos’ services from the chasing pack.
It will not mean that Rangers are safe, with a host of other clubs likely to be keen on ‘El Buffalo’. But Napoli being out of the persuasion would be a huge boost for the Glasgow side.
