Rangers updated predicted XI: Steven Gerrard brings back £13k-a-week ace and 11-cap international

Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be hoping to bring three points back to Ibrox in the season’s first Old Firm derby this weekend.

The Light Blues remain top of the Premiership table as club football prepares to resume after the international break, though Celtic are a point behind and have a game in hand.

Gerrard was able to provide good news in terms of fitness on Friday, with Joe Aribo and Kemar Roofe “really close” to a return, though the derby comes too soon for them.

Bongani Zungu won’t be available for another 10 days, while Nikola Katic remains a long-term absentee, but besides those, Gerrard’s got near enough a clean bill of health.

With all this in mind, who could start for Rangers at Parkhead on Saturday?

With Allan McGregor, Filip Helander and Alfredo Morelos no longer deemed doubts as the Daily Record reported earlier this week, all three should go into the XI.

So we’re probably looking at the £13k-a-week veteran in goal and a backline of James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic alongside the 11-cap Swede.

Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara could line up just in front of the back line, while Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield and Jordan Jones could be deployed further up.

The latter two have really impressed Rangers fans in the last few weeks with their much-improved form, just in time for the Old Firm clash.

And finally, Morelos is a shoe-in to start up front, where he’ll be hoping to finally break his duck against Rangers’ bitter rivals.

Rangers predicted XI: McGregor; Tavernier, Helander, Goldson, Barisic; Kamara, Jack; Jones, Arfield, Kent; Morelos
