Rangers target Mahlon Romeo could be a decent addition

Rangers are reportedly interested in Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo.

According to the Daily Express, the Gers are eyeing the 23-year-old and view him as a potential long-term replacement for James Tavernier at right-back if they decided to cash in on him.

It is understood that Premier League outfit West Ham have also scouted the full-back from Championship side Millwall.

Romeo is an ever-present in the Millwall defence at right-back and has a good level of senior football for someone his age.

The speed machine is an attack-minded right-back that makes driving runs forward, but is playing for a team that is just above the relegation places in the Championship.

It would make sense for Steven Gerrard to try bring in some serious competition for Tavernier in the first team and given his vast potential, Romeo could be the ideal fix at Ibrox.

The Express report does state that the Millwall defender is due to be a free agent at the end of the season, but the club confirmed (official website) back in 2018 that he had signed a long-term deal.

It’s unclear on where the right-back’s future will lie, but Rangers should step up interest from the summer regardless of his position.

He could definitely benefit from a move up north to Scotland and be another improvement on the squad.
