Rangers talent Lewis Mayo reacts to comparisons with cult hero Sasa Papac

Sasa Papac is something of a cult hero at Rangers. The Bosnian arrived at Ibrox in 2006 and spent six years at the club. The talented left-back then retired in 2012, just two months after leaving the Glasgow club, because of a groin issue.

However, plenty of Rangers fans keeping an eye on Steven Gerrard’s side’s return to training this week were of the belief that Papac might be back at the club.

That was because of the presence of talented Rangers youngster Lewis Mayo. The 20-year-old is currently training with the Rangers first-team and will be hoping to get a chance to replace Nikola Katic in Gerrard’s first-team. There’s also no doubt that the Rangers youngster bears a remarkable resemblance to the former Gers hero.

The Rangers fan and player also found the funny side of the recent physical comparisons. He took to Twitter this weekend to show that he himself saw the likeness.

Mayo will now be hoping to not only emulate Papac with his appearance but also on the pitch.

Rangers need defensive cover at present, with the injury to Katic and Mayo might be hoping to get his chance, rather than Gerrard going out and bringing in another recruit.

Then, hopefully, he can establish himself as firm a fan favourite as Papac was and remains at Ibrox.
